General Information PageBPBA is an all volunteer organization dedicated to providing fun and education to hundreds of Brooklyn Park area youth through the sport of baseball. BPBA meets at 7:00 PM (8:00 during the Baseball season) on the second Sunday of each month at the Brooklyn Park Community Center. This meeting is an open meeting! Even if you don't attend these meetings, you will be expected to donate a few hours of your time to help make our program a success. Please see more details on the Volunteer Page. Our Major source of revenue is the concession stand at Northwoods Park. A $100 volunteer deposit check will be required for each player. (You may combine more than one player on one check.) If your child is playing on an American League team, you will be required to work approximately 2 shifts per child. If your child is playing on a National League Team, you will be required to work 1 shift per child. Traveling team parents are required to work 3 shirts per child and every effort is made to schedule these during the time their child is playing in a tournament at Northwoods. Shifts are generally 2-4 hours in length. Anyone 16 and older can work your shift. Volunteer shift sign ups will happen through your coach. To the best of our ability, shifts will be scheduled to coordinate with your player’s tournament game times (work before or after your child’s game), during week night league games (with viewing capabilities from the concession stand), during the end-of-season picnic (game stations or concessions), or during other tournaments sponsored by BPBA. Remember, these tournaments raise a significant amount of money, which in turn, lowers all our costs. Volunteer deposit checks will be cashed if you do not show up for your shift(s) or if you indicate that you do not want to work your shift. At the end of the season, all remaining deposit checks will be shredded. The deposit for
American League, National League and Instructional League will be $75.00.
Last year a number of uniforms were not returned and the equipment
director spent considerable time and effort trying to collect them all.
The coaches will collect the deposit prior to distribution of the
uniforms. Checks will be held in a safe deposit box until the end of the
season. Your coach will return the checks when he collects the uniforms.
They must be washed before you return them. It's easy to be taken
in by our own competitiveness and forget our manners when watching our
children participate in games and practices. Many of the umpires and all
of the coaches you will come in contact with are volunteers. Others are
teenagers trying to learn how to umpire at a very basic level and earn a
little money while doing so. They are going to make calls you don't agree
with. They may even make some calls that are wrong. If you feel you must
criticize someone, please do it privately ill a calm manner. If we all
remember that Coaches coach, Players play and Parents cheer, everyone's
experience with youth baseball will be a lot more fun. For more thoughts on this subject, check out this article.
